Swords: Wisetooth and Nautilus by kvernikovskiy Swords: Wisetooth and Nautilus by kvernikovskiy
Saw a cool concept art of a sword, wanted to do my own.

Man. Fantasy swords sure are impractical.

Those were cool swords. Giant, unwieldy, impractical, cool swords.

Law of fantasy weapons. The more impractical they seem, the more full of magic they are, and therefore the actually more useful they are.

Wisetooth has a familiar look and shape. The hollow blade motif is a familiar one in fantasy, so it ends up looking slightly generic. Having said that I like the thickness and spiking on the end that gives a sense that the blade, while lightened due to its hollow nature, would still have a great deal of heft and momentum.

Nautilus looks a lot like the baby brother of the Soul Edge. I'm waiting for the jewel in the cross guard to swivel around and glare at me before the entire sword opens up and reveals what looks like blades to actually be the teeth of a bottomless maw.

I was going to have that jewel be an eye, then I remembered that I saw that elsewhere, although I could not for the life of me recall where.

I'm actually not sure if it was soul edge or another glaring sword.

Well, they probably make up for their impractical shapes by being absurdly magic. So, like, deceptively easy to wield or something.

There's "aesthetically pleasing but somewhat impractical" and then there's "Nautilis". Or, alternatively stated, what is this I don't even.

It's only really usable as a terribly unbalanced club. That you can cut yourself on and gets stuck in things.

Takes the timeworn idea of slapping someone with a wet/cold fish to a whole new level.

Honestly, Wisetooth seems to be the least cumbersome, and the Nautilus is for those with unbreakable wrists. However, it's not about practicality, it's about maintaining fear and looking awesome doing so! :evillaugh:
The coolest part though would be the campaign history between them (assuming they got their names due to heroic or infamous acts), I wonder at the possibilities.

Well, Nautilus looks like a conch shell, and Nautilus is a cooler name than Conch.

Wisetooth is... spiky, so... tooth, therefore?

It's not like I thought about these terribly hard, heh.

Conch would've been hilarious though, as in the sound effect. XD

Heh. I suppose you're right!

The real fact of the matter is that I mixed up conchs and nautiluses. (And hey, apparently conchs is the actual plural of conch. Nice.) So that there's a mistake.

Well, the image I was looking at that made me want to make this was from Darksiders. So perhaps that's why!

Specifically it was this one: [link]

I suppose they are pumped full of *so much magic* that the horrible impracticality of the shape doesn't matter.
